Tamarind Rice (Puli Sadam)

Ingredients:
  1. Tamarind – lemon size
  2. Sesame oil – 3 tbsp
  3. Dried red chillies – 10 no
  4. Bengal gram (channa dal) – 2 -3 tbsp
  5. Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  6. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  7. Fenugreek – ¼ tsp
  8. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  9. Red chilli powder -  ¼ tsp
  10. Hing – a pinch
  11. Curry leaves few
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Water- ½ cup
  14. Cooked rice – As per your need
  • Soak the tamarind in hot water & take the extract from it.
  •  Heat oil in a pan; add mustard seeds, fenugreek seed, urad dal, channa dal, dried red chillis, curry leaves and just fry. 
  • Then add tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, hing, salt and water. Cook tills all the water evaporates and the mixture thickens. 
  • Then mix with cooked rice as per requirement. Serve hot and enjoy :)
